Elmer’s Social Responsibility Statement

Revised February, 2015

At Elmer’s Products, we believe responsible actions lead to long term success. That’s why decades of commitment to inspiring creativity, building and learning through the development of innovative products also includes a mission to support education, environmental responsibility, and to serve those most in need

Therefore, Elmer’s has committed to taking a leadership role in the communities in which we do business by developing products, programs and partnerships to manufacture, deliver and recycle our products in a sustainable way. Here are some examples:

  • Elmer’s School Glue Naturals®
  • Foam Board Sustainability Commitment
  • Manufacturing Best Practices

The Elmer’s brand is synonymous with education and committed to building and reinforcing partnerships with organisations and educators that support children and their opportunities to create, build and learn. Applying this learning through innovation enables us to continue developing products and services which encourage creative inspiration. Our affiliation with education focused charitable causes also provides supplies and support to children and teachers most in need. These partnerships and programs span elementary through higher learning institutions and include:

  • The Kids In Need Foundation®
  • Champions for Kids
  • Science Buddies
  • CCAD (Columbus College of Art and Design)
  • Weinland Park Project/Schoenbaum Center
  • The Ohio State University
  • The University of Akron
  • Rio Grande University

Kids in Need Foundation
Elmer’s is proud to be a sponsor of the Kids in Need Foundation. Through this partnership, we hope to provide teachers and students with the materials and resources they need to be successful.

Elmer’s is a national sponsor of the Foundation’s “Elmer’s Teacher Tool Kit” program, which provides grants for teachers who wish to replicate successfully proven classroom projects from the Kids in Need Guide to Award Winning Projects Elmer’s also donates product to the Foundation’s national network of resource centers, where teachers from low income schools can obtain free school supplies for their students and classrooms. These resource locations feature an Elmer’s Tools for Teachers section stocked with a variety of Elmer’s® and X-ACTO® school supply products.

Foam Board Sustainability
As a Foam Board category leader committed to environmental protection and sustainable practice implementation, Elmer’s Products works to continually integrate sustainable initiatives into its foam board manufacturing process. These efforts include:

• using a 100% ozone friendly foaming agent and a formaldehyde free process;

• using internally and externally generated recycled content; and,

• the reduction of electricity consumption by reusing Foam Board byproducts as a fuel source.

Manufacturing Best Practices
Elmer’s Products, Inc. is committed to manufacturing best practices. The Elmer’s Statesville, N.C., plant employs several initiatives to help reduce, reuse and recycle. Among these is the reduction of energy consumption through low energy programmable lighting, the installation of programmable thermostats and the adoption of efficient intermodal transportation. The plant has also reduced its number of annual non recyclable solid waste loads by 10 percent or more on average, in part by reusing wooden and plastic pallets and recycling damaged ones that are no longer usable. In 2010 alone, the plant kept more than 315,515 kilos of material waste from landfills through a massive program to recycle as many materials associated with the production process as possible, including scrap foam, corrugate, paper, blister cards, scrap shrink and stretch wrap, batteries and PET bands.

In addition, our Social Compliance Program is designed to ensure suppliers based outside of the United States and Canada who manufacture, assemble or package finished products for all divisions and subsidiaries of Elmer’s Products are, at a minimum, in compliance with applicable local legal requirements governing issues including, but not limited to, wages, benefits, working hours, child labour, forced labour, factory security and health and safety. Elmer’s is fully committed to operating with the highest standards of business ethics, not merely in accordance with applicable law. We expect our vendors to maintain these same high standards.
